Bristol Motor Speedway

Brystyle

I swear me and D don’t like Nascar, I mean not even a little bit.  But you set up some Cornhole Boards and put some cash and prizes on the table, and we’ll show up anywhere mane.

And that’s just what the NTL and ACO men Ryan Labelle and Keith Wilkins are doing at the Nascar events in 2009.  Setting up the boards, and bringing Cornhole to the Nascar masses. @ Bristol they put on 4 Tourneys on Thur, Fri and Saturday morning, $100 to the winning team.  And then a main event Saturday afternoon with $2500 going out to the top 8 teams.  But don’t be late… Cause they sure wont wait on ya if your running a little late on a Friday night! J

It be aight though.  There’s plenty of fun to be had if your looking for it on a Thursday night in Bristol.  Just ask the man in the moon

Or even worse, you might wake up in the neighboring camps ole Red truck, un-invited!  But hey, it’s got to be better then waking up in jail J

Shhh… It happens mane.

So we all shook off Friday night, or most of us did anyway.  And prayed with D that the coffee pot would work.  Which it didn’t.   Then headed out to see what Bristol had to offer some hungry cornholers for Friday.

Word was BMS was also offering some corn action near the drag strip, 4 tourneys as well paying $300 to first and $200 to second, and  Mark A & Craigee had signed up for Tourney one with them at 9am, and then planned to play in the NTL’s at Noon.  D and I would set this first one out, as we had been told  that you were not allowed to play in all 4.  We would find out later though that had been changed… What the freak!    But it all worked out in the end, because as we watched tourney one, we would stumble upon a reporter for the Bristol Herald Courier, looking for a story angle for some of today’s events.  I think he was a relative of Meeks.

As for his story? Hmmm…  How about your looking at the numero uno girl in the Nation brother mane!  Craig and D can tell you the story of Shelby and the Horse shoe, with Craigee even adding his Bristol Quote of the weekend that made the paper… “Get drunk, play cornhole, and have a good time!”

So while our new buddy Ben Knight kept BMS tourney one rolling and tried not to stroke out  on his first go round at running a tournament…lol ( aint quite as easy as you think huh Ben?), Mark A would watch his partner do a little jig with him all the way up to the Championship match.  Shaffer Sr and Jr would take 1st in this one, and Mark A and Craigee would grab 2nd.

Me and D kept our selves entertained while we waited out tourney 1, D by throwing some corn at the Vendor displays,

and myself by watching the Vendors throw some corn at the displays… J

In BMS tourney 2, D and I would grab 1st, barely sneaking by two new faces to the tournament games, Gary and David, who were a couple of locals that played in all 4 of the tourneys and placed in the top 4 in each of them.  They had a lot in common with us, they love Cornhole, and did not attend the race either!  lol

After the BMS events finished, we headed back over to see how Mark A and Craigee were doing in the afternoon NTL event, and found that Mark A and Craig had already won the event and the $100 cashola, and Craigee was feeling so good he was now calling out the NTL fellas Todd and Colin to a grudge match!  Or maybe he was just pointing at the NTL girl?

Day two offered more of the same, but today each site would also be holding their main event.  Now with all them prizes and that kind of cash on the line, who do you think would come waltzing on the scene…  That’s right.  Mr. Atha and the King.

So we all sucked it up and put on our game faces and got ready to throw down with two of the best.  But as you can guess, Matt and Randy would grab 1st in BMS tourney 4, with  D and I grabbing 2nd.  Hey mane, we tried!   They would also win BMS tourney 4, and then would grab 1st for a third time that day in the BMS main event, with the Shaffer boys taking 2nd.  It was no walk in the park for them though, with Mike Shaffer SR and JR knocking them into the losers bracket, followed by me and D having them down 12 -1.  12 – 1!!!!! Are you hearing me here!!!  But then choking wide open to go down in flames 21 -12.  You’ll have that…

The NTL would also have their main event that day drawing out one heck of Crowd to watch some of the best throw down for the $2500 total purse.  And me and Mark A were ready mane!  Craigee I think was still feeling the effects of Friday, and Colin was enjoying his pain. J  Not sure who that third dude is, but his hat was cool enough to get him in the email, plus Shelby said he was hot.

Matt and Randy were busy winning BMS tourney 4 while the NTL main event was being played, so the rest of us knew we had better than usual shot on this one.  But once all the bags had been thrown, the Cult teams would tie for 5th (Mark and Craig, Me and D), no idea on 3rd and 4th (Ize sorry mane) Brakefield and Andrews would grab 2nd.  And just like the song says “Hey, here comes the Rooster!!!” Jason the Rooster Schwab and his partner Damon would take home first, with none of the beans touching along the way.

All in all it was heck of a weekend.  The cult took home two 1st place finishes, two 2nd’s, and two 5th’s.  We played with, beat some, and lost to, some of the top players in the Nation, and got a good idea of what to expect come this Friday at the Turfway Tailgate Bash, and Saturday at the ACO Monster World Cornhole Championship.  Fellow Cult Member PD Stewart will be playing at Fountain square in the 9th spot of 16.  Also fellow Cult Member Mark Allen is currently setting in the number 16 spot.  He will have to take down whoever wins the Tailgate Bash, in the play game at Fountain Square to make the cut.  Win that one, and he will then be going up against the King of Cornhole, Matt Guy, in the first round of the ACO Cornhole Championship.

A tough row to hoe for sure… But one that can be done my friend.
