New Boards and Bags, Good Times
I recently got some Tournament Series cornhole boards and bags from the American Cornhole Organization. Yes, I have some connections. And lately, cornhole has been very popular in the streets of the Hurst/Euless/Bedford area in Texas. So far, mind you, it's just been my father-in-law (pictured) and I playing, but that's not the point. What's been the most appealing is the camaraderie, the appeal of the shiny new boards, and knowing that life isn't all that bad when playing cornhole.
Is there anything better than a good game of cornhole to
take away your troubles? Although, my previous set of boards and bags were pretty rough - I didn't bother painting them and my bags kept breaking open - I played at every opportunity. (And, on a side note, I have to thank my good friend, Eli Frick, for making those boards.) I would vigorously invite others to play, especially the newbies. I love watching the grin of a rookie cornhole player when they finally sink that first bag. The cheers, talk of rules, giving them pitching pointers, showing them how to set up a good defense, whatever the setting...it just works. Without even knowing it, all the cares of the world go away when cornhole enters the picture.
With this new set of boards and bags, life has been good. I'm getting some good practice in too. But, I've been getting to know my father-in-law in the process. While playing we discuss politics, family issues, sports, work, the future, the past, the present...whatever's on our minds at the time. A good game of cornhole seems to take care of it all. In fact, the most recent game we played included a few libations, as well as some nice cigars. The Texas weather that day was perfect, not too hot and nowhere near cold. We played until we couldn't see the boards anymore. Now, that's the way to play! If we had lights, I'm sure we could've played through the night.
So, if you're out there playing cornhole and just enjoying a good buddy or a family member, keep it up. The cornhole nation salutes you! And Hole Magazine supports your every pitch. Game on!
